An electric fuse is a device that an interrupt the flow of electric current when it is overloaded. This implies, it is basically a short piece of conducting material that allows only required amount of current to flow through it thereby saving the expensive electrical appliances from burning out.
The basic function of an electric fuse is to prevent healthy part of the circuit from being damaged and to limit the damage to the faulty sections or items to the lowest possible level.
