Why You Need Solar Powered Garden Lights

by Cecilia Simon

Most public gardens are illuminated at night so that visitors can enjoy the highlights and features of the garden's design. Most passersby will not even think of the plannign and design that went into the lighting but they sure will appreciate the ability to enjoy it at night.

Like most public gardens, a team of professionals is employed to design and install the landscape. This team will arrange and plant all of the foliage, statues and rocks needed to create a pleasing look. In addition to this, they will also develop a lighting scheme that will highlight the garden's features at night. If you are not a professional landscape designer, do not worry. The ease of installing outdoor light fixtures will allow you to achieve the same results.

If you are thinking of installing a lighting scheme for your garden, you might be worried about the increase in your power bill. Not to worry as solar lanterns exist to save you money. Solar powered lights can be set up in any garden and placed in any spot that can absorb the sun's rays during the day.

As with anything that is meant to be used outdoors, solar lighting fixtures are made of weatherproof materials. These materials are meant to withstand the elements so they are also very durable. The solar lights absorb the sun's rays, store them and then transform them into light when the sun goes down.

Solar lighting also benefits you by its easily installed nature. Since it requires no wires to be run from a power source, it does not need to have trenches dug to bury such wires. Without the need for wires, the solar lights can literally be placed anywhere you want without disturbing the flower beds.

Solar lights are cost efficient as well. Since they do not draw power, they do not increase your utility bill. The solar lights have their own source of power, the sun, and do not need to draw from your house. Additionally, a standard solar lighting fixture can last around 100,000 hours. This means you will not need to replace the solar lights for years.

Solar lighting can improve the aesthetic appeal of your garden as well as improve the security of the grounds. It can light up walkways and dark areas of your garden and backyard. They can also illuminate the areas you want your guests to see at night. With the different types of post lights, walkway lights and spotlights, the solar lights can be used in a number of different ways.

Whatever function you choose for your lights, either security or aesthetic, you will want to make sure the lighting enhances the garden while blending in with it. If you do the proper planning for your lightscape, you will enjoy a well lit garden for a long time.
